SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Upstate electric customers would see no rate increase from National Grid this year, under a proposed rate order that state utility regulators are likely to approve next week.
Many commercial customers would see significant bill reductions in 2012, but residential
bills are expected to remain flat, according to information presented today at the Public Service Commission.
The proposed ruling, which the PSC will tweak this week and vote on Jan. 20, would allow National Grid to collect roughly $115 million a year more in delivery rates — a 7.7 percent increase.
That increase would be more than offset next year by the expiration of a $550 million-a-year obligation that customers will finish paying off in December. The PSC anticipates an overall rate cut of 16 percent in 2012, but the benefit would flow mainly to medium- and large-sized businesses, because they are paying the largest share of the $550 million.
