Syracuse, NY — The new state budget, if passed, will add about $3.65 a month to the average household’s utility bill in Central New York, thanks to a sharply increased tax on electric and gas companies.
Consumer advocates and energy companies united in opposition to the higher utility tax, which will increase to 2 percent from the previous rate of 0.33 percent.
