There are two changes occurring in New York:

  1. All energy customers in New York will see an additional sucharge of 2%. The money is going into the State’s coffers.
  2. Beginning August 1, 2009, in the five boroughs of New York City, the state will begin collecting a 4.5% sales tax on the delivery portion of energy bills of customers who purchase energy from Energy Service Companies (ESCOs). Existing Con Ed customers already pay this tax, and will continue to do so.
